Palmetto Project believes communities are strongest when every child has the resources to learn & grow, and when every family has the opportunity to thrive.
From a child’s first book, to their first day of high school, to their first bike, Palmetto Project programs ensure children in South Carolina can learn, grow, and experience the joy of childhood.
When a family is displaced after a hurricane, when an adult with disabilities wishes for a gift card to their favorite grocery store, and when a senior citizen is spending their first Christmas alone, Palmetto Project programs provide stability, support, and hope.
Our Families Helping Families programs in the Midlands and Lowcountry help ensure children, families, the elderly, and adults with disabilities have essential supplies and a community of support.
Our partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides the magic of storytime to 15,000 children under five years-old in seven (7) counties.

Families Helping Families
Holiday Assistance
Since 1990, Palmetto Project has provided the magic of the holiday season to thousands of Midlands families with children, senior citizens, and adults with disabilities in need in partnership with WIS News 10. Our incredible community of donors has made the Christmas season merry & bright for more than 80,000 total families in the Midlands.
Help us continue this special holiday tradition.
Back-to-School
Beginning in 2024, we expanded our FHF of the Midlands model beyond the holiday season to ensure that hundreds of Midlands children in need could start the school year with the supplies to succeed.
Because of all of YOU, our Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive has provided 1,600+ local students in need students with the supplies they needed to succeed since 2024.
Holiday Assistance
Starting in 2025, FHF of the Lowcountry (FHFL) provides holiday assistance to more than 300 elementary, middle, and high school children from Charleston County School District and their families experiencing homelessness.
Help us make this new tradition of FHFL a success — and help make the holidays merry & bright for local children and families in need!
Back-to-School
In 2025, we launched Familes Helping Families of the Lowcountry (FHFL) with our Back-to-School Supply Drive with Midland Park Primary School!
In partnership with our wonderful Lowcountry community, we provided backpacks & school supplies for Pre-K and K5 children in need!

The Magic of Storytime
- Storytime exposes children to nearly 300,000 more words by kindergarten and makes learning new subjects easier in the future.
- Storytime forges bonds and forms positive memories between young children and their caregivers, which strengthens children’s resilience.
- Storytime is a special time.
Palmetto Project delivers storytime to thousands of families through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL).
Every child enrolled in DPIL through Palmetto Project receives one colorful, developmentally-appropriate book delivered to their mailbox monthly until they turn five (5) years-old.
While DPIL is always free to the families we serve, it is not free to Palmetto Project.
We must pay DPIL for the books and postage for every child, every month, every year.
Your gifts will help us continue building in-home libraries for children and providing the magic of storytime.
You may specify which county you would like to support.
