Our work begins when others are leaving …
Since 2015 volunteers and community organizations across South Carolina have been helping displaced neighbors reclaim homes that have been rendered uninhabitable by the most dangerous flooding in our state’s history.
The Palmetto Project’s Flood Hub supports their work by providing items like new mattresses, appliances, basic furniture, and household supplies. These are things that larger disaster relief organizations do not provide and are too costly for local groups to pay for on their own. We also provide gift cards to affected families to ensure they can buy whatever essentials they need to get a new start.
In 2018 Hurricane Florence added to this misery by dumping staggering amounts of rain on northeastern South Carolina. Without help, many of those who lost their homes may not be able to get back into them for more than a year.
The Palmetto Project is a statewide, non-profit organization founded in 1984 to put new ideas to work solving community challenges like these.
