Encouraging Families, Youth & Schools
Families
Helping Families
continues
to be one of the largest programs to assist needy families
during the holiday season at the end of the year.
In December, more than
2,400 South Carolina families were assisted with gifts,
food, clothing, and other seasonal needs by more than
3,000 donors, sponsor organizations and individuals across
the state.
Now in its 15th
year, FHF provides a systematic approach to reaching as many
of the neediest families in South Carolina as possible. By
coordinating with local agencies and charity programs we can
insure that donations and charitable giving are targeted to
those who need help the most. Every dollar donated to FHF
generates nearly $9 in goods and services for Palmetto State
families in need.

Kids with Cameras,
Charleston Kids with Cameras is an
on-going mentorship program formed to help inner city boys
and girls see both the world beyond their neighborhoods and
the opportunities available to them.
Professional photographers serve as mentors for young inner
city children as they learn how to take photographs, edit
them, and then prepare them for exhibition. The
project has been funded with local dollars, including grants
from Palmetto Project supporters, John Davis and John
Winthrop.

The Yo Art Project,
is an all volunteer
mentoring program for inner-city youth that teaches them
technical computer skills to build self-esteem and
confidence for academic and future job skills.
The Yo Art Project gives the kids a
sense of community through art workshops, exhibitions, and
public art projects. Located at the Marion Strobel Community
Center, the Yo Art Project is a partnership between the
Palmetto Project, the City of Charleston Recreation
Department, and The Housing Authority of the City of
Charleston.
