Palmetto
Project
Establishes
Endowment to Encourage
Innovative Solutions.
The Palmetto Project has established an endowment to support
innovative approaches to solving community problems in
South Carolina. Over the past fifteen years the Palmetto
Project has been part of nearly 100 community-based partnerships
to solve problems that seem to defy traditional or conventional
solutions. The South Carolina Fund for New Ideas will
support our efforts to develop new projects, as well as
provide matching funds for grants to expand community
projects which have shown promise.
Already the Fund has received several
very generous donations of stock and cash from friends
of the Palmetto Project. The Fund is managed by Winthrop,
Melhado, & Flynn of Hilton Head, and overseen
by our Board of Directors. If you are interested in making
a gift of stock, please contact our comptroller at 843-579-0021.

IMAGINE
2000 Summit
We
would like to thank our partners who helped us make the
IMAGINE 2000 Summit the first interactive event of its
type in the State's history. On February 24th, 2000 SCERN
and Palmetto Project conducted a simultaneous live radio
broadcast and Interactive Web forum. This allowed listeners
at home to communicate with other listeners in a "live"
environment.
It
also allowed the 3 panelists to receive immediate feedback
and questions, which were passed on to the participants
by the "round table" moderator. We clearly saw
that projects of this nature provide a brand new communication
dynamic and we hope to explore more projects of this type
in the future with SCERN.
On February 29th, 2000 noted historian and author Jack
Bass also participated in a nationally syndicated chat
on "Race Relation and Politics" with Public
Interactive. The transcripts from this chat will be posted
in the next 2 weeks.
The
Palmetto Project knows that this is just the beginning
of South Carolina's efforts to promote more positive dialog
and we are excited to be a part of that process.
